Besides enjoying wine and views the Mountain Brook Vineyards estate, the hiking opportunities in our area can’t be beat. Whether you’ve got twenty minutes or a whole afternoon, these foothills have a trail for you. Easy strolls like the Vaughn Creek Greenway are perfect for families (and well-behaved pups are always welcome), while spots like Chestnut Ridge Heritage Preserve offer a little more elevation and a lot more view. Lace up, breathe in that mountain air, and work up a thirst. We’ll have a table and a glass waiting when you’re back.
There’s something about seeing the hills surrounding Mountain Brook from the back of a horse that just settles you right into escape mode. Just minutes from the vineyard, outfitters like Tryon Western Adventures and the trail rides at Tryon International Equestrian Center welcome riders of every experience level, from total beginners to seasoned equestrians. Wind through wooded trails, cross a creek or two, and soak in those mountain views before circling back for a glass of something well-earned. It’s slow, it’s scenic, and it’s about as North Carolina foothills as it gets. Or, for some more action, try your hand at a hunt with Tryon Hounds.
Few things beat the sound of falling water after a good hike, and this stretch of North Carolina delivers in spades. Pearson’s Falls and Glen is a local favorite for its lush, almost secret-garden feel, while Little Bradley Falls rewards a roughly one-mile trek with a 50-foot cascade and a swimming hole that’s downright irresistible on a warm western North Carolina afternoon. Pack a picnic, bring the family (four-legged members included), and make a full day of chasing waterfalls before you make your way to us.
Tryon is a small mountain town with a big personality and friendly faces, a thriving arts scene, and a deep-rooted love of horses and hospitality. Wander Trade Street, browse a gallery or two, catch a show at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, and soak up that slow, foothills pace before making your way to us for a glass of something local. Tryon’s history runs deep, with celebrities like Nina Simone growing up here. Plenty to explore.
For dirt lovers, Tryon International Equestrian Center also offers miles of singletrack winding through forest and along the Green River, with trails suited to riders looking for a relaxed cruise as well as those craving a little more technical terrain. Polk County’s growing trail network adds even more options nearby, with new mileage being added regularly for hikers, runners, and riders alike. And for those wanting to see the sites from above, there’s also Canopy Ridge Farm Ziplining near Lake Lure. If you dare.
However you like to ride or zip, we’ll have a glass poured and a seat waiting for you.
